[Green Lanes Business Association survey]

Question 1. What do think is good about the area?

Good – easy access to parks, libraries etc. good range of shops etc

Question 2. What do you think is less good about the area?

Less good – too many betting shops. Lousy post office (in wrong place).

Traffic very dense with high levels of loutish driving

Question 3. What would you like to see to improve the area?

Improve – widen Aldermans hill pavements – to create one lane in each direction with 20mph speed limit

Question 4a. Specific aspects – traffic

Traffic – introduce 20mph speed limit. Introduce 30 mins parking bays from hedge lane to triangle

Hedge Lane junction – mark road surface to encourage passengers (sic) – passenger sides turning. Right turn lane dedications

Question 4b. Specific aspects – parking

Parking – too restrictive – aimed at income generation not use of area

Supports free ½ hr parking. Would encourage more use of town centre since there is potentially a range of shopping but restrictions and cost of parking is a serious deterrent

(certainly) Doesn’t support Sunday parking charges. This will contribute to the death of the shopping area

Question 4c. Specific aspects – clutter

Clutter – far too much signage and many posts are hazardous

Question 4d. Specific aspects – look of the shops/architecture

Look of shops –many are part of chains and must therefore follow chain style (eg McDonalds). Some good architecture –green lane should be the core of a conservation area.

Introduce design guides for shop fronts

Question 4e. Specific aspects – type and range of shops

Type of shops- good range but too many betting shops. Parking restrictions should be lifted

Question 4f. Specific aspects – amount and use of pavement space

Pavements - palmers green (lanes) pavements are not wide enough for displays of goods and advertising boards.

Question 4g. Specific aspects – the Triangle public space

Triangle (clock tower). This is utter nonsense – we have watches and mobile phones for accurate time. Dig out the derelict lavatories and plant a large tree there. More trees!

Question 4h. Specific aspects – Greenery

Planters – nice idea but they are usually despoiled by rubbish. There is little space suitable for planted beds

Any other comments

Other – enhancement by removing as much public signage as possible. Enforce the illegality of spitting and dropping rubbish. Create 30 min parking bays.

Introduce 20 mph speed limit everywhere.

Reduce the autocratic and baneful activities of Enfield council
