10.30am - 11am - Welcome and Opening Remarks

11am - 11.45am - Artist-led tour of A Portrait for Southgate
Join artists Alex McHallam and Liz Tiranti on a guided walk taking in some of the 28 mosaics that make up the A Portrait of Southgate art trail, each inspired by Southgate's unique heritage and vibrant mix of residents.
11am- 1pm - Community Planting
Community planting will take place on the two green beds just outside Southgate Station, led by the Bee Friendly Trust. Tools and equipment will be provided to all who want to take part.
11.45am - 1.30pm - Refreshments and Exhibition
Refreshments, supplied by a local cafe, will be provided at the conclusion of both activities. There will also be a chance to find out more about work being delivered in the town centre and chat with the project teams for A Portrait of Southgate and the Southgate Vision Masterplan.
The 28 mosaics that make up A Portrait of Southgate are installed on former hanging basket posts along Chase Side. Each represents a specific topic relating to Southgate's history or culture. Artists Alex McHallam and Liz Tiranti visited local community groups to collect stories and anecdotes about Southgate’s history and local characters. Local people participated in practical mosaic workshops delivered at the Southgate Club, St Andrews Church and Durants School. The art trail was commissioned by Journeys & Places with funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Arts Council England.

A Portrait of Southgate is one of the projects that have come about as part of the Curate Enfield programme of improvements to the borough's town centres. For Southgate specifically, Journeys & Places have been developing a Masterplan Vision, drawing on input and feedback from the community gathered in late 2024. This included a public webinar (see the recording below). In April this year Journeys & Places issued a report describing the engagement process and its findings.
