Phase 2 of the planned public realm improvements to Enfield Town has been broken up into subphases. Funding has been found for the first of them and work to implement the changes, benefiting primarily pedestrians, is due to start on 20th October and last around three months.

In June this year Enfield Council published its plans for phase 2 of the Enfield Town Liveable Neighbourhood project, which were out for statutory consultation until 13th July. This followed the completion of phase 1 in late 2024, mainly comprising work in the western part of Enfield Town and culminating with a ribbon cutting ceremony in the newly created Saddlers Square this January.

In September, following the consideration of objections raised to the proposals, cabinet member Sabri Ozaydin approved a decision report recommending going ahead with "phase 2a", described as a "standalone" section of the project and comprising only part of the full phase 2 proposals. The work will use funds provided by Transport for London plus money from the community infrastructure levy paid by developers of construction projects in the borough.

As regards the rest of the phase 2 proposals, which include a pedestrian-friendly major redesign of the area around Enfield Town Station and the addition of cycle lanes along London Road (northbound) and Genotin Road (southbound), the decision report for phase 2a says that "future phases (including phase 2b) will be delivered as 'stand-alone' projects to deliver independent benefits and are subject to separate future decision reports". An important element of the "future phases" is the addition of both westbound and eastbound cycle lanes along Cecil Road. These future phases will depend on the availability of funding and, of course, on the policies of whichever party is in charge at the Civic Centre following next year's elections.
