Newly published traffic count data for a second residential street in the Fox Lane neighbourhood confirms what its residents know only too well - that up to 400 vehicles an hour are using it as a cut-through and that, even though the street is short and has a sharp bend, there is widespread disregard for the speed limit.

The detailed traffic count and speed data for Amberley Road was obtained by a resident who submitted a Freedom of Information Act request.  Over six and a half days in November 2018 nearly 26,000 vehicle movements were recorded.  More than a thousand drivers were breaking the 30mph speed limit.  There were 34 instances of drivers exceeding 40mph, of which ten were recorded doing more than 50mph.  The highest speed recorded was 60.1mph.

The November figures form the baseline data which will be compared with traffic counts taken once current "quieter neighbourhood" measures have been in place for a while.  So far these consist only of planters placed at the ends of streets to make it impossible for cars to enter and exit the street at the same time.

The spreadsheets provided by the council break the week down into one-hour segments.  The person who obtained the data has produced the following summary table. (If the table is not displaying properly, please click here.)

The following table is taken from the council spreadsheets and shows totals for the 6.5 days that the count was carried out. (If the table is not displaying properly, please click here.)
