Serious concerns about a shortage of primary school places for families in their area have been raised by the Fox Lane and District Residents’ Association (FLDRA), which represents households in parts of Palmers Green and Southgate.  In response, councillors and officials of Enfield Council have agreed to attend a public meeting to be held at 7.30pm on Tuesday 30th April at the United Reformed Church in Fox Lane.

FLDRA has highlighted the fact that the priority catchment areas of local primary schools exclude the areas where many of their members live.  They point out the prevalence of young children having to travel across the Borough to school rather than having a school within walking distance, and are also concerned about “cheating” by some parents, who take short-term leases on flats within school priority areas in order to secure places for their children.

The residents’ association has also expressed its disappointment that the governors of Walker School in Southgate Green have turned down proposals to expand the school.
