Fox Lane and District Residents' Association have published a document provided by Enfield Council showng some of the initial concepts for a possible new primary school to be built in Grovelands Park (see this earlier report).

grovelands landform conceptThe document, which can be viewed here, shows only three options out of at least six that have been investigated (presumably the others have already been discounted).

Option 2, with the school on land currently owned by Thames Water (to the left immediately after entering via the Inverforth Gates), envisages the main school building as a "folly" occupying the visual focus, but camouflages other school buildilngs.

Option 3 again uses the "folly" concept, but with the school built on part of the land currently occupied by tennis courts.

Option 6 is a much more radical concept, employing the "landform" principle on the Thames Water land; this would presumably make the school buildings effectively invisible from many aspects.

These are very much initial concepts, and the whole concept of a school in Grovelands Park is itself only at the conceptual stage - for one thing, it would require permission from English Heritage.  It is clear, however, that the planners are working on the basis of minimising the impact on the rest of the Park and, if possible, actually enhancing it.
