The deadline to respond to Enfield Council's consultation on proposals to introduce more 20mph speed limits on the borough's roads has been put back to Sunday 21st September.
"Put back" both in the sense that the deadline has been postponed by two weeks, but also in the sense that it has been restored to its original date - it had been brought forward by a fortnight.
The evidence that reducing speed limits from 30mph to 20mph cuts deaths and serious injuries is now clear, and particularly so in cases where drivers are in collision with children, who additionally are particularly vulnerable if hit by a car with a high bonnet. Even though many drivers exceed the new speed limit, the statistics show that they do drive more slowly than in 30mph zones and the reduction in speeds leads to fewer collisions and less serious injuries when collisions do occur.
