8th February 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of RoadPeace, the national charity for road crash victims. For 30 years RoadPeace has been providing vital support services and delivering information to those bereaved or seriously injured in road crashes as well as campaigning for justice for victims and road danger reduction.

On this day in 1992, RoadPeace was set up by Brigitte Chaudhry MBE after her only son was killed by a red light offender two years prior.

Founder and President of RoadPeace Brigitte Chaudhry MBE states:

“Founded 30 years ago, RoadPeace is proud to have brought the issues of road death & injury and justice for road victims onto the political agenda.

During our 30 years of tireless work, road deaths have decreased by some 60 per cent to the lowest number ever recorded, with serious injuries reduced by some 50 per cent. Yet much work still needs to be done, especially since the remaining daily toll of 5 deaths and 80 serious injuries represent the leading cause of death and injury of young people – our future!

We will continue working hard to ensure the highest possible priority for bringing this toll down to near ZERO, which is our vision.”

Nick Simmons, CEO adds:

“RoadPeace has achieved so much over the past 30 years. Our Helpline, Befriender service and local groups serve the bereaved and seriously injured and the World Day of Remembrance, started by RoadPeace, represents an annual opportunity to remember victims of road traffic crashes. As we mark this important anniversary, we know there is still more to be done and members, volunteers, supporters, trustees and staff will continue to work together to support victims and a safer road environment”.

Over the course of 2022, a series of activities will take place to mark this special year and further support victims and their families across the United Kingdom. Please check in regularly on our website and follow us on social media to keep up to date.
