While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.
Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.
For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.
Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
The concept of Play Streets is catching on in and around Palmers Green. People from fourteen streets in Palmers Green, Southgate and Winchmore Hill met at a meeting at Baskervilles last month to learn from the experience of Devonshire Road residents and find out how to go about making their own street a Play Street.

Enfield Council has begun the first phase of consultation for a further Quieter Neighbourhood in the vicinity of Palmers Green: Fernleigh Road QN will comprise Hoppers Road and all roads to the east as far as, but not including, Green Lanes, plus Winchmore Hill Green and the area to its east as far as Green Lanes, including Compton Road and Station Road.
Residents will be sent a questionnaire but can also respond online - in fact, the Council are seeking responses from all members of.......
Work on the Fox Lane Quieter Neighbourhood has now moved on to the stage where selected residents are invited to participate in design workshops. Colin Younger attended a workshop on 10th February.
Following the presentation hosted by the Fox Lane and District Residents' Association, Enfield Traffic and Transport officers held a design workshop on 10th February at St Johns Church Hall. Overall this was a well-managed meeting and the discussions were good tempered.

The campaigning group 20's Plenty for Us has published a document describing the status of various 20mph schemes throughout Greater London and the policy decisions (mainly from the Mayor of London's office) that have been leading to their becoming increasingly widespread throughout the capital.
A factor affecting policy was the rise in pedestrian and bicycle rider fatalities and serious injuries which was noted in 2011, reversing a prolonged reduction. Reacting to this, the GLA Transport.......
A Winchmore Hill resident has launched a campaign for a 20mph speed limit on two roads which lead to Winchmore Hill Green - Church Hill on the western side and Station Road to the east.
Philip Tsappas held a public meeting to launch his campaign in November and has now released additional campaigning literature (see below). He is linking this local campaign with the national 20's Plenty for Us movement, which seeks to make 20mph the default speed limit on residential and urban streets........
At 2pm on Sunday 7 December we closed Devonshire Road in Palmers Green to let the kids play out – for the seventh time this year. We received our Temporary Play Street Order from Enfield council back in June, and ever since we’ve been closing the road to through traffic for a couple of hours once a month on a Sunday afternoon. We are carrying on through the winter. Temperature doesn’t seem to matter to the children, who make the most of the closed road to scoot, cycle, play ball games and.......
A newly published guide to street design sets out the latest thinking on how roads and streets in cities, towns and villages can be decluttered and redesigned to make them not only pleasanter to look at and to use, but also significantly safer.
Street Design for All - "a compilation of current thoughts and practices in the art of Street Design" - reflects the work and ideas of professional road engineers and of campaigners for improvements to the "public realm".1 It provides an easy to.......
The Quieter Neighbourhoods schemes which Enfield Council are planning will use various "traffic calming" measures, the aim of which is to reduce traffic accidents, encourage walking and cycling by reducing the stress associated with heavy or fast traffic, and generally make life pleasanter for people living, walking or cycling along residential streets away from main roads.
Traffic calming is not universally popular - concerns include noise and damage to cars allegedly caused by speed humps and.......
The initial consultation stage has now begun for two "Quieter Neighbourhood" schemes covering a large swathe of residential streets extending from the Cambridge Roundabout in the south east almost as far as Southgate Circus in the north west (though excluding Green Lanes, which runs between the two areas).
Consultation began last month for the Wolves Lanes Quieter Neighbourhood, which lies south of the Connaught Gardens QN, separated from it by the North Circular Road.

Having posted some notes on the street redesign in the Turnpike Lane/West Green area. I went down this morning to take a look at the work. I still not sure how relevant this is to the Fox Lane area Quiet Neighbourhood sscheme, basically because the street plan is so different. However the individual elements may be of some interest. These are the subject of the attached photos which can be related to the original plan included in the earlier posting.
One thought arises is that if Fox Lane was.......
