A campaign has been launched in opposition to the proposal by the boundary commissioners for a radical reshaping of the parliamentary constituency in which Palmers Green is located. A public meeting will be held at St Peter's Church, Grange Park, at 8pm tonight (Monday 28th November).

The Save Our Southgate campaign argue that Enfield Southgate is "a historic seat with a strong identify and shared community", whereas the proposed Southgate and Wood Green constituency (see the map in this earlier report) is a "mish-mash" with "no electoral, historical or cultural coherence". The campaign is calling on residents to write to the commissioners before the deadline of 5th December. The campaign's leaflet is reproduced above and the text transcribed below.

The leaflet bears an imprint of the type used for electioneering by political parties:

"Promoted by SaveOurSouthgate, 291 Green Lanes, Palmers Green, London N13 4XS"

291 Green Lanes is the address of accountancy firm Hurkan Sayman. According to comments on Facebook, the address is also associated with a former Conservative councillor for Winchmore Hill ward.

WHAT

Please state your objections in your own words, with reasons which apply to you.

  • Your objections to the proposals. ie; fragmenting the community; separating homes from schools, places of work, worship & sports facilities. It's a mish-mash with no cohesion.
  • Enfield Southgate is a historic seat with a strong identity and shared community. Its balanced and delivers variable political results. The proposal has no electoral, historical or cultural coherence.
  • There is no connection between Winchmore Hill and Edmonton, or Grange Park and Enfield North. Neither has a shared sense of relationship with these constituencies.
  • The proposed Southgate and Wood Green constituency is a strange stretched shape, from Hadley Wood to White L i-. Crossing the North Circular and splitting Southgate between Enfield and Haringey makes no sense.

HOW

Title your objections "Southgate and Wood Green Constituency Objections".

  • Include Your full name and address including full post code.
