class 313 farewell tour at kings cross

Looking unusually resplendent, a class 313 train ran a special farewell tour on Wednesday to raise money for charity. Seen here at Kings Cross, 313 064's front car has been "wrapped" in 1980s-style Network South East livery.

Until new class 717s entered service this year, the 313s were the only type of train to have run on the Moorgate route since the section between Finsbury Park and Moorgate (the "Northern City Line") was transferred from London Transport to British Rail in the mid-1970s. After privatisation the trains were operated by WAGN, then by First Capital Connect. Govia Thameslink Railway took over in 2014, but never bothered to repaint the class 313s, which remained in Capital Connect livery to the end, looking scruffier by the day.
