Why did seven Labour councillors ignore strongly expressed professional advice about risks to life and other serious deficiencies and vote against a motion to refuse planning permission for a new tower block in Brimsdown? Some information that might provide a clue has been unearthed by the borough's independent community newspaper, Enfield Dispatch, and is revealed in the lead front-page story in its December issue, published yesterday.

Campaign to 'save' Enfield Southgate constituency calls meeting for Monday

A campaign has been launched in opposition to the proposal by the boundary commissioners for a radical reshaping of the parliamentary constituency in which Palmers Green is located. A public meeting will be held at St Peter's Church, Grange Park, at 8pm on Monday 28th November.

A manifesto sent by Enfield Climate Action Forum to all candidates standing in the council elections asks them to acknowledge the profound risks created by climate change, the need to both mitigate and adapt to its effects and to protect the most vulnerable people and ensure that measures taken do not cause suffering for the most disadvantaged members of the community. It sets out a list of actions needed to cut waste; reduce car use; cut pollution; ensure that the planning system works to reduce rather than exacerbate climate risk; and mitigate flood risk.

Issues discussed included: the one-way system in Windsor Road, Osborne Road, Lightcliffe Road and New River Crescent; continuing failure to stop dangerous rat-running at the bottom of Hazelwood Lane; and consultation on a controlled parking zone.
