Calling violin, viola, cello, bass and brass players! Good amateur musicians needed for the North London Symphony Orchestra. NLSO is a friendly hard-working amateur orchestra which performs a wide range of symphonic music to a high standard under a professional conductor and leader. North London Samaritans - getting closer to their new home

North London Samaritans are now 70 per cent of the way towards raising the £15,000 they need to be able to afford to rebuild Bowes Park's "Tin Tabernacle", turning it into a centre for their life-saving activities and a hub for the local community.  Funds received a big boost on Sunday, when Myddleton Road Market stallholders and shopkeepers raised a total of £925 for the project. The PG Festival needs someone to organise Classics on the Green

This year the Palmers Green Festival organisers are planning to use the former bowling green in Broomfield Park to stage "Classics on the Green" - an afternoon of local musicians playing classical music. This innovation will depend on finding a local volunteer who would put together a line-up of locally based musicians.  They would be supported by the Festival Team, but would be responsible for administering and stage managing on the day. Help the magic Climbing Tree grow even taller

Everyone's Climbing Tree - described as "magical" by the young people who benefit from its workshops and wonderful encouraging spirit - is working towards raising £10,000 to refurbish and expand its base close to Alexandra Park Station. Talkies brings you a historic and groundbreaking film, with a live orchestra

Talkies Community Cinema has never been known to rest on its laurels.  This month the locally based "pop-up" cinema will be launching its third HERE film festival with a special event featuring for the first time a live orchestra.  The film in question is of great historical importance and was itself a groundbreaking achievement when it was first shown just over a hundred years ago. Palmers Green and Southgate are blessed with the presence of one of London's best Blues clubs. Every Friday night St Monica's social club on Cannon Hill is transformed into "St Harmonica's" and plays host to some great musicians, some local, others from further afield, who play for free - the only money they take home is what goes into the collecting hat. Entry to the club is also free - you just need to pay a membership fee of a mere £2.50 a year.  And prices at the bar are as cheap.......

North London People's Orchestra needs you!

For the third year running All Saints Church in Edmonton will be hosting the Lamb Festival, celebrating local literary celebrities Charles and Mary Lamb. Another Super Summer Sunday in the Park

As we confidently forecast in the weekly newsletter, last Sunday was hot and sunny and people turned out in droves to listen to the Broomfield Blues in Broomfield Park.  They also stopped by at the Community Orchard to admire the wildflowers, see how the apples were coming on, drink home-made apple wine and observe the insects in their bug hotel, the Bugsingham Palace.  A few visitors even tried their hand at croquet on the former bowling green.  And there were chilli plants on.......

Rain doesn't stop play!

The first of this year's Proms in the Park was hot and sunny, the second - held last Sunday - was overcast with occasional drizzle.  But the weather didn't deter over a hundred people gathering to listen and dance to musicians from Bowes Park Folk Club and local singer/songwriter Luke Carey - as you can see from the cutting below, taken from the Enfield Gazette.  Click on the picture for a bigger version As the Gazette also points out, this weekend will see a change of style: .......

Sun shines on park promenaders

Despite rain earlier in the day, the Proms in the Park season got off to a hot and sunny start on Sunday afternoon.  A pleasant atmosphere prevailed as music lovers sat on the grass near the Broomfield Park bandstand to listen to music by North London Brass, with an intermission provided by young drummers from BishBashBosh and BoxBeaters.   There are three more Proms in the Parks concerts featuring a variety of musical styles - see below.  As well as the music and great.......
