On Friday 22 June an event is being arranged especially focused on older people living in Enfield. This Friendship Matters event is aimed at attracting those who may be experiencing loneliness and isolation to attend and become engaged by meeting with individuals and groups and thereby improve their quality of life.

Age UK Enfield has launched an exciting new project called the Memory Club. The group aims to offer meaningful activities and social interaction for people with Dementia and their carers. Age UK Memory Care Navigators will be available for carers to use to access support and advice.

Yvonne Quigley is inviting everyone to a special tea party at the Ruth Winston Centre from 2pm to 4pm on Friday 31st March. We are holding a fundraising tea party for Dementia UK to support their work with Admiral Nurses who are funded by them.  They carry out vital work with those who have dementia and those caring for them so we want to do our part to keep their work on going. As more and more of our loved ones are being struck down with dementia we need to spread the word,.......

If you're 40 or above and live in the UK, you could help a research project that is looking at how people's thinking skills change - or in some cases stay the same - as we get older. The research is being led by Dr Alan J. Gow, Associate Professor in Psychology at the School of Social Sciences, Heriot-Watt University, and is collecting data using a survey, which you can fill in online or on paper.  Either way, it should take about 15 to 20 minutes to complete. To celebrate Dementia Awareness Week 2016 Healthwatch Enfield’s very own Lucy Whitman has organised special events where she will present her book People with Dementia Speak Out. In the book, twenty-three people from diverse backgrounds share their experiences of living with dementia. Of the 1.2 million Freedom Pass holders across London, around 138,000 Older Persons pass holders will need to renew their passes from January to March 2016. London Councils, the body which administers the Freedom Pass scheme, will be sending out a letter to all Older Persons Freedom Pass holders whose pass is due to expire. A researcher at the Royal College of Art is appealing for people to help answer questions about the problems which some older people find in using digital technologies.  By interviewing people who  have difficulty using computers, mobile phones etc or are simply not keen on trying them, Emily Groves is contributing to a joint Swiss-UK project to design a digital tool to enhance social ties for older people in existing communities.  The research will also be used to help improve.......

Enfield residents aged 50 or above may qualify for free a free energy check of their home and advice about how to stay warmer without paying higher bills for gas and electricity.  If appropriate the HEET scheme will arrange for work to be done free of charge. If you've ever suffered depression and it only started when you were 55 or older, the Royal Free Hospital would like to hear from you. The Royal Free is carrying out a study designed to improve the understanding of the causes of late-onset depression.  Volunteers are needed to help researchers investigate neural pathways in the brains of older people with depression, with the aim of developing more effective treatments. NHS England, in partnership with Age UK, Public Health England, and the Chief Fire Officer’s Association and Older People themselves, has published a Practical Guide to Healthy Ageing. The Guide helps people to stay physically and mentally well by providing “hints and tips” on how to keep fit and independent. Delivered in conjunction with the HEET Project, Age UK Enfield is offering free home energy visits to people aged 50 and over living in the London Borough of Enfield.  The service is particularly aimed at older people who are finding it difficult to keep their homes warm and are therefore at risk of cold-related illnesses. This could include people who are struggling to pay their bills, who are in fuel debt, who have no heating, or don’t know how to work.......
