The current Stitch! shop on the corner of Devonshire Road closes on 8th October. Stitch! will be opening a new shop inside Palmers Green Post Office on 20th October.

The second item of new public art has now been installed at Palmers Green station - a mural along the fence leading down to the car park, created by ATM Street Art, commissioned by the Palmers Green Action Team and paid for by Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) from its Passenger Benefit Fund.

The Palmers Green Action Team's project of commissioning artworks to improve our town centre has moved forward with the installation of this new station sign, created by the Bread Collective. The next step will be to add planting, which will grow up around the lettering.

Our area has a rich selection of restaurants and take away outlets. We have had a huge choice of global cuisines from which to choose. But overnight all were forced to close - to limit the spread of the coronavirus. Imagine how desolate our area would be if, when the restrictions are eventually lifted, many were never to open again.

Meet renowned street artist ATM

The renowned street artist ATM will soon be creating a mural at Palmers Green Station, inspired by the New River and its wildlife. Palmers Green Action Team are offering free art workshops on Saturday 28th March, 9.15am and 2.15pm, to meet the artist and explore the ideas for its design.

Company fined for breaching fire regulations and risking lives of PG tenants

Harper Stone Property has been fined £20,000 for breaches of fire regulations which nearly led to loss of lives when a fire broke out four years ago at 268-278 Green Lanes in the centre of Palmers Green.

A roller skate rink for Palmers Green?

A crowdfunding appeal has been set up to raise money to convert an empty warehouse in Palmers Green into a roller skating rink. The project promises to provide a 'compelling destination' which will attract people to the area, give a 'vital spark' to the regeneration of Palmers Green, bring the community together and boost social inclusion.

A community hub for Palmers Green?

At the recent meetings about reviving Palmers Green town centre a suggestion made from the floor was that PG needs a 'community hub'. So what might a community hub look like? A couple of months ago I visited Social Spider, the community interest company that publishes the Enfield Dispatch. Their offices are in Walthamstow, in a building called The Mill. The Mill is a perfect example of one possible type of community hub.

What a perfect day for a pop-up parklet!

Palmers Green's first ever pop-up parklet event, on Sunday 15th September, was a great success. There were plenty of visitors, the weather was ideal (believe it or not, there was a time not so long ago when it didn't rain every day), the location - at the Green Lanes end of Devonshire Road - was well chosen, nearby businesses joined in - Stitch! even opened on a Sunday specially - and the council was cooperative. But most of all, the event succeeded because of hard work and careful planning by a team of around 20 people and because it was such a great idea!

Reviving Enfield's town centres: Progress to date

Enfield Council is continuing its work aimed at reviving the borough's town centres and last week launched a community engagement programme inviting people to 'participate in a conversation about Enfield Town and create a vision for its future'. Next week a council committee tasked with finding ways to improve Enfield's shopping areas will be meeting - the agenda and accompanying documents provide some insight into the council's emerging ideas for its town centres, in particular Enfield Town and Palmers Green.
