Firs Farm Wetlands awarded national prize

Firs Farm Wetlands has won a Living Waterways Awards in the 2017 competition, which is run by the Canal & River Trust, the national charity which has the task of protecting more than 2000 miles of waterways in England and Wales. Mayor of London's Greener City Fund will support local environmental projects

In line with his support for Make London a National Park City, the Mayor of London is setting up a Greener City Fund to provide money for local groups to plant trees and improve green spaces.  Groups have until 29 September to apply for Tree Planting Grants and until 20 October to apply for Community Green Spaces Grants. Broomfield Park's community café- the Palmers Greenery - has had another successful year and is inviting groups and individuals to bid for a share of its profits. The Greenery is a "community café" in several ways: its cakes are baked and sold by volunteers from the community, it serves a community function by providing refreshments in the park, and it invests its surpluses in community projects.  It's located near the tennis and netball courts and is open on Wednesdays,.......

The Friends of Broomfield Park and Enfield Council have recently been successful in securing £64,000 of funding from the War Memorials Trust. As part of the proposed project it is intended to restore the Stained Glass windows that were once set in the back three recesses of the Memorial Temple. Council funding cuts likely to lead to closure of toilets in some parks

As a further cost-cutting measure in response to severe cutbacks in funding by central government, Enfield Council is considering closing toilets in some of its parks. The following report is taken from the Fox Lane Residents' Association website and was published on 30th March. LB Enfield is reviewing the provision of park toilets, in light of the cost of maintaining the service and also the problem of vandalism. A new green space alongside Green Lanes

If you were wondering why trees and undergrowth are being cleared next to the section of the New River that runs parallel and close by Green Lanes, it's to create what is in effect a mini-park, with a path running between Barrowell Green and Carpenter Gardens, new trees that will provide better sight lines and new seating. War Memorial Trust to help finance restoration of Broomfield Park Remembrance Garden

The Remembrance Garden Temple A campaign by the Friends of Broomfield Park to restore the Park's Remembrance Garden has finally succeeded.  Enfield Council notified the Friends this week that the War Memorial Trust has agreed to a grant of £63,270 to the Council.  This represents 75 per cent of the total cost - the remainder will be paid by the Council War Memorial Temple - roof repairs and new stained glass windows replicating the original design.
