Fox Lane Quieter Neighbourhood proposals published

Details of proposed measures to create the Fox Lane Quieter Neighbourhood were published this morning. Like last week's plans for the Fernleigh Road QN, they take a holistic approach to reducing vehicle speeds along side roads throughout the large area covered, which stretches from Palmers Green Triangle nearly all the way to Southgate Circus. Fernleigh Road Quieter Neighbourhood proposals published

The third set of Quieter Neighbourhood proposals relates to the "Fernleigh Road" QN - the entire area bounded by Hoppers Road, Station Road, Green Lanes and Bourne Hill. Hoppers Road does not just form a boundary, but would itself be part of the QN. There would also be measures to reduce traffic in two roads to the north of Station Road. The consultation is open until 12th November. In contrast to the approach taken to the Wolves Lane and Connaught Gardens QNs, the proposals are clearly aimed.......

The second Quieter Neighbourhoods scheme to be consulted on is for the "Connaught Gardens" QN - the triangular area bounded by Hedge Lane, the North Circular and Green Lanes. The deadline for responses is 22nd October. I was hoping that Enfield Council's traffic planners would have studied how tremendously effective the "villages" in Walthamstow have proved, dramatically improving the liveability of residential streets by making it awkward, but not impossible, for cars to drive through.......

Quieter Neighbourhoods: Wolves Lane proposals without teeth

Enfield Council has relaunched its Quieter Neighbourhoods project (by my count, for the second time) by publishing its proposals for the "Wolves Lane Quieter Neighbourhood". Curiously, however, Wolves Lane itself doesn't even appear on the map on the consultation leaflet - it shows only Melville Gardens and streets to the east - and the suggested changes would only affect a small area around Oakthorpe School and certainly not create a "quieter neighbourhood". As reported earlier, Enfield Council will resume work on creating Quieter Neighbourhoods with the next few weeks. The debate about Enfield’s Mini Holland rages on via social media and the local press – will there be gridlocked roads? Vacant businesses? Cyclists mowing down the elderly at bus stops? Meanwhile, some of us from Better Streets for Enfield and Enfield Cycling Campaign decided it would be easiest just to go and look at a Mini Holland that’s already in progress. Green Lanes cycle lanes proposals have public backing

According to a press release issued by Enfield Council today, a majority of people who responded to the public consultation about the A105 Cycle Enfield proposals indicated that they were in favour of the scheme going ahead. The press release states that "60 per cent of the 1,646 people consulted said they supported the plans, while just 40 percent were opposed to them". Enfield Council has begun the first phase of consultation for a further Quieter Neighbourhood in the vicinity of Palmers Green: Fernleigh Road QN will comprise Hoppers Road and all roads to the east as far as, but not including, Green Lanes, plus Winchmore Hill Green and the area to its east as far as Green Lanes, including Compton Road and Station Road. Fox Lane Quieter Neighbourhood Design Workshop

Work on the Fox Lane Quieter Neighbourhood has now moved on to the stage where selected residents are invited to participate in design workshops. Colin Younger attended a workshop on 10th February. Following the presentation hosted by the Fox Lane and District Residents' Association, Enfield Traffic and Transport officers held a design workshop on 10th February at St Johns Church Hall. Having posted some notes on the street redesign in the Turnpike Lane/West Green area. I went down this morning to take a look at the work.
