Enfield campaigners highlight excess deaths linked to NHS privatisation

Last Saturday campaigners from Defend Enfield NHS were in Parliament Square along with members of other groups opposed to privatisation of NHS services at a demonstration called to highlight the findings of research published in the respected health sector journal The Lancet that changes to for-profit outsourcing since 2014 were associated with an additional 557 treatable deaths across 173 clinical commissioning groups.

Fairtrade Fortnight 2023

Fairtrade Fortnight runs from 27th February to 12th March. In Enfield, the annual campaign will be launched by the Mayor, Cllr Doris Jiagge, at the Co-op Food Store in Lancaster Road, where there will be a raffle held in support of several charities. So what is Fairtrade? Bill Linton explains.

Got an old bike you don't need? Recirculate it for use by an NHS staff member

If you have a bike that you no longer need, take it along to the North Mid hospital on Friday 24th February so that it can be reconditioned and passed on to an NHS worker or other person who needs one.

Help for Hunger, set up by mother of four and PG resident Rosie Hurndall, is planning to provide 900 Christmas hampers of food and gifts for hungry local people this year. Rosie is appealing for donations of items for the hampers and of money.

Cooking Champions Community Kitchen opens its doors to hungry cooks

Enfield's first community kitchen has opened in a disused church in Ponders End. Initially, it will be open one day a week, providing free food, utensils, hobs and ovens to people who cannot afford to buy food or to turn on their cookers.

2021 sees the tenth anniversary of the Met's Christmas Appeal, which has so far provided more than 116,000 presents for children in need. This year there are nearly 17,000 children (aged from birth to 17 years old) to provide a gift for. These children come from many different backgrounds. Many live in poverty, in refuges or are child carers, and some live in children's homes. The one thing they all have in common is that they are all children in need living in London.
