In celebration of their 23rd birthday, join Enfield Poets for an afternoon-long literary party of poetry, performance and film on 13th January at the newly reopened (and rechristened) Dugdale Arts Centre. Special guests will be celebrated poet and author Maggie Brookes-Butt, and winner of the Costa Poetry Award and Costa Book of the Year 2021, Hannah Lowe. The festival commences at 11.30 with a free two-hour "poemathon" before moving into the theatre for the rest of the afternoon. Audiences.......

Enfield People's Theatre, comprising mostly first-time actors, will be performing Lynda Brennan's new play If Not Now, Then When? at the Crouch End Festival and then three times during Enfield's Big Green Climate Festival, which runs from 18th to 26th September in venues throughout the borough. It's described as an 'interactive community play for a loud and active audience of children and adults'.

Chickenshed has opened booking for the autumn season of Sunday Shed workshops for kids, whether little or big (ages 5 to 18). These are drop-in sessions designed to spark an interest in many aspects of performance - acting, dance, music - and develop skills and confidence (not to mention having a lot of fun on the side).

Southgate Opera and Winchmore Hill-based ELODS are among four musical theatre companies that perform at Wyllyots Theatre in Potters Bar. This month they have launched a series of YouTube videos of special performances celebrating musical theatre, all recorded out of lockdown at Wyllyots. They're free, but you're encouraged to contribute to fundraising in support of Wyllyots and NHS Charities Together.

The latest offering from Chickenshed's YouTube Premiere channel is a piece of verbatim theatre, staged in the Chickenshed Studio in 2016, that deals with the subject of domestic abuse. In the Absence of Silence was inspired by interviews conducted with women as part of Chickenshed's outreach project, Survivors. It will be available to watch until 30th December.

Three much loved centres of important cultural, artistic and historical significance in Enfield have received more than £670,000 to safeguard their futures. Following applications from Enfield Council, Forty Hall has received £137,000 from the first round of the Culture Recovery Fund (CRF) for Heritage while the Dugdale Centre and Millfield Theatre have been given £534,995 from the CRF grants programme. There were also awards for Chickenshed, Border Crossings and dance promoter Radioactive Clothing.

A new Manga mural by artist and theatrical designer Sonoko Obuchi, featuring representations of students from Platinum Dance, has been officially unveiled at the Millfield Arts Centre in Silver Street Edmonton. The mural celebrates the local enthusiasm and passion for the arts that Platinum is an important part of, and also marks the launch of a new venture, the Platinum Performing Arts Academy, which opens next month.

From Sunday 19th until Saturday 25th January Incognito Theatre in Friern Barnet will be presenting Ghosts by Henrik Ibsen. Incognito's small but perfectly formed auditorium is the perfect place for this intense exposition of claustrophic small-town life.
