We've written before about how North London Samaritans would like to restore the "Tin Tabernacle" at Bowes Park and use it to run their live-saving services.  Now the insurance company Aviva has included it in the Aviva Community Fund.  You can register with the Community Fund and will be given ten votes to distribute as you choose between the 3000+ projects. Depending on how many votes it collects, the Shaftesbury Hall Refurbishment Project (to use its official title) could receive.......

Positive people from the local community needed - could you spare two to four hours a week for a year to help turn a child's life round? This is the question that Chance UK is posing.  By becoming a Chance UK mentor you would be helping inspire a primary school child with behavioural difficulties, who otherwise when a little older might find themself drawn into anti-social or criminal activity. Customers eating breakfast at Heritage Tea and Coffee in Southgate were surprised to find themselves in the company of a famous TV chef this week - except that "Gordon Ramsey" turned out to be lookalike Martin Jordan.  "Gordon" was visiting the cafe, along with the Deputy Mayor of Enfield, Patricia Ekechi, to present its owner, Colin Johnson, with an award for Enfield's Best Breakfast 2015.  His cafe had won the most recommendations from members of the public taking part in the.......

If you travel to Bowes Park station, walk up the stairs from the platform and turn right (towards Bounds Green), the first building you encounter when leaving the station is Shaftesbury Hall, a former chapel now known locally as the "Tin Tabernacle".  It's a rare survivor of a type of metal self-assembly church that sprang up the Victorian era, but is now in a state of disrepair. Skills for Work Service (Enfield Council) is currently working in ten primary schools as part of a wider Market Gardening project. All schools are working hard to grow vegetables and fruit in the school grounds with parents and children. This is helping both to educate the children about growing food and also to provide food to support families. The project requires volunteers to help with food growing in schools. Woodcroft Wildspace volunteer teams are continuing work to improve the former sports ground in Winchmore Hill which they have been converting into an area where people can take pleasure in nature, as well as learning about insects, birds, small mammals, pond life, plants and trees.
