Everyone's Climbing Tree - described as "magical" by the young people who benefit from its workshops and wonderful encouraging spirit - is working towards raising £10,000 to refurbish and expand its base close to Alexandra Park Station. Firs Farm: Not long ago this was just a muddy fieldA project to provide play equipment in Firs Farm Park is one of three ideas that are competing to obtain funds from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative. Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its community funding scheme, which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – being awarded to local community projects. Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive.......

The parent of a child at Oakthorpe Primary School is petitioning Enfield Council to improve pedestrian safety in the vinicity of the school, which is Tile Kiln Lane, near the junction with Chequers Way. The online petition, on change.org, reads as follows: Produce adequate road safety for Oakthorpe Primary School before a child is injured. My child has been attending Oakthorpe Primary School on Tile Kiln Lane since September 2015 and very early on I noticed that there was a major problem.......

In a particularly bad time for air quality (not yet over), a couple of newspaper headlines that bring home the problem. The front page of yesterday' Evening Standard A  London  head teacher today issued a heartfelt “cry for help” to protect her pupils from toxic air which has blighted the capital for days. Effie Demetriou of Bowes Primary School, next to the North Circular, begged  Sadiq Khan  and Transport for London to act and cut local pollution........

The Enfield Young People’s Project (EYPP) is an innovative programme that works with young people to develop self-esteem and build up the skills they need to resist peer pressure, avoid risky situations and make safe and informed choices. If you are over 18 you can volunteer to support the young people taking part in this rewarding programme. Local health and social care watchdog, Healthwatch Enfield, has today released a report on young people’s experiences of mental health support in the borough. The Palmers Scream Team have announced the names of the winners of the Spooky Stories Competition - three each from Walker School and Hazelwood School. The young spooky storytellers's tales of strange happenings were chosen from 200 entries.  The judges were impressed by the inventiveness and imagination shown by all children in their stories.   They commented:  "We never knew our area could be so spooky!" The rather mysterious "Palmers Scream" website has information about a story writing competition for local 8 to 12-year olds: "Whether about the Bogwarts of Bounds Green, the witches of Winchmore Hill, the spookiness of Southgate, apparitions of Arnos or the phantoms of Palmers Green, we want you to create a story that we will all enjoy!" Skills for Work Service (Enfield Council) is currently working in ten primary schools as part of a wider Market Gardening project. All schools are working hard to grow vegetables and fruit in the school grounds with parents and children. This is helping both to educate the children about growing food and also to provide food to support families. The project requires volunteers to help with food growing in schools.
