Projects to create two new Quieter Neighbourhoods - "Bowes East" and "Edmonton Green" - have now progressed to the second phase of community engagement, which runs until 11th February.

The projects are being developed by Enfield Council's Journeys & Places team

Based on feedback from the initial phase of engagement, which ran from 1st September to 8th October last year, Enfield Council's Journeys & Places team have developed specific proposals for measures designed to deter or prevent drivers from cutting through the two areas, which will thus become more peaceful for people living within the area and safer and pleasanter for people using the streets on foot or on bikes, or stopping to talk to neighbours.

There are schools in both areas, whose pupils will benefit from safer journeys to and from their classrooms.

"Bowes East", located south of the North Circular Road, refers to streets bounded to the west by Green Lanes, to the north by the A406, to the east by Wolves Lane/Melville Gardens and to the south by the boundary with the London Borough of Haringey.

"Edmonton Green" denotes streets north of the North Circular and bounded by Fore Street/Hertford Road to the west, Bounces Road to the north and Montagu Road to the east.

On the maps below, these two areas are shown using shading.

The proposals involve measures that include banning some right or left turns, creating one-way streets and installing "modal filters", ie points which drivers are not allowed to pass, but which let people on foot or riding bikes through. Both schemes also include "school streets", designed to remove traffic from streets outside schools when children are arriving in the morning and leaving in the afternoon.

Between now and the end of the engagement phase, on 11th February, residents will be able to find out more about the proposals and share their opinions at drop-in sessions and webinars, via a short online survey and by writing to the council using email or post.
