be an enfield hero croppedEveryone could do with a hero in their life and Enfield Council is launching a campaign to encourage more residents to volunteer their free time and help make the borough a better place for everyone.

be an enfield heroIt is estimated that 40 per cent of the population volunteer their time and Enfield Council wants more people to join this dedicated band of Enfield Heroes and encourage more people to help make a real difference to their communities by helping out in ways which include helping those more vulnerable than themselves, mentoring young people or doing odd jobs for community organisations.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Organisations & Culture, Cllr Yasmin Brett, said: “We’ve got an estimated 100,000 heroes in Enfield who already give up their free time to help others.

“That’s incredibly community spirited and we enormously value the contribution they make to the borough, Enfield Heroes is all about building on the great tradition of volunteering we have in Enfield and encouraging even more people to give their free time to really transform the lives of people in genuine need of help and assistance.”

Ten reasons why you should volunteer:

  • Volunteering can be fulfilling and reduces stress
  • It will help you learn new skills and improve your job prospects
  • It is a good way to meet people and make friends
  • It can promote personal growth and development
  • It strengthens the local neighbourhood
  • You'll be able to learn about how charities work and their area of expertise
  • You get the chance to give something back to those in need
  • It increases civic pride and responsibility
  • It can give you the opportunity to travel overseas with international programmes
  • It is really good fun!
