Enfield Festival of Industry: An evening with Enfield Poets

Saturday 2 March 5.00pm

Dugdale Arts Centre, London Road, Enfield Town EN2 6DS

Join Enfield Poets for an evening of poetry and conversation as we hear original poetry from six of their members. As part of the Festival of Industry, Enfield Poets created a series of poems celebrating Enfield’s industrial heritage and inspired by their experiences and memories of working in industry. As part of this event, the poets will be interviewed by Skevos Loizou, from Maroon Community Media, about their work. Having the opportunity to discuss their stories in more detail and sharing more behind the stories that inspired their poems.

The poets sharing their work will be:

Anne Alexander
Michael Brett
Anthony Fisher
Anna Mickiewicz
Christine Vial
Gay Whymark

And their poems can be read or heard online here

Festival of Industry is a borough wide cultural and capacity building programme celebrating Enfield’s industrial heritage and exploring the borough’s current and future identity. The Festival of Industry is led by Enfield Council in collaboration with Enfield’s creative sector and is funded by Arts Council England.

For the full festival programme and more events, see the Festival of Industry website:here

The poems by Anthony Fisher, Christine Vial and Gay Whymark are about their experience of working in industry in Eastern Enfield. Christine and Gay left industry but Anthony is still working in Brimsdown. The others are about places or things from Eastern Enfield.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
