Dear Friends,

With just weeks until the launch of EURO 2016, Enfield borough police are advising fans to take some simple steps to ensure that both they and their families can enjoy the event. Commander Dave Musker leading the policing operation for the Met, said, "We have been working closely with our EURO 2016 partners as part of our planning for this event to make sure fans can enjoy the coverage of the competition in a safe and secure environment.

met police plus euro 2016“We ask fans to do their bit and take some simple steps to make sure that this family event remains enjoyable for everyone."

If you are travelling to France or to a London broadcast of a match please plan your journey in advance and check transport updates before you travel. While you are away remember that crowds attract thieves. Keep your possessions safe by keeping purses zipped up in handbags and tuck bags under your arm. Never leave your property unattended.

Anyone required to surrender their passport in relation to a football banning order should ensure that this is done prior to the launch of the competition. Failure to do so can result in an extension to the term of the banning order.

Commander Christine Jones the senior MPS officer responsible for Domestic Abuse, said: ‘Home Office analysis and acade, mic research indicates there will be an increase in domestic abuse during the course of the competition. Major sporting events do not cause domestic abuse as perpetrators are responsible for their own actions. However, increased alcohol consumption combined with heightened emotions seems to increase domestic abuse at key times throughout the tournament.

She added: "The Met will not tolerate domestic abuse in any circumstances. It is a serious crime and working with all our partners and local communities, we are committed to safeguarding victims and pursuing offenders. We want to know if you are experiencing domestic abuse and there are a wide range of third party reporting facilities available. My message to victims is: if you feel you cannot tell the police, please tell someone.’

Borough Commander Carl Robinson said: “We want supporters to enjoy EURO 2016 this summer and the majority of fans will do just that. Unfortunately there is always a small minority of people whose actions could spoil the events for others. Those people will be dealt with robustly.

“We have been working with Enfield borough council licensing officers to supply guidance to pub licensees reminding them of their responsibilities to prevent any alcohol-related antisocial behaviour during the competition.” Additional officers will be available to the borough on match days to provide support if required.

If you plan to have a few drinks while watching the match, please take some time to think about your journey home. If there is a chance you may be drinking leave the car at home. Take a licensed taxi and if possible arrange this in advance.

Inspector Paul Dwyer added: “Please remember that not everyone is a football supporter. To many people 10th June to 10th July will be business as usual. Pleaseconsider others during the competition and help us to make sure that you don’t score an own goal this EURO 2016.”
