On the last Sunday of May there will be a rare opportunity to taste twelve Czech wines at a venue only a few minutes away from Palmers Green.

It's not widely known that the Czech Republic - famous for its beers - produces some excellent wines. If you've eaten in restaurants in Prague you will quite probably have drunk wine from Moravia, the second biggest of the "Czech Lands" (Prague is in the largest of the Czech Lands - Bohemia, the remaining "land" being Silesia, which straddles the Czech-Polish border).  The wine producing part of Moravia is in the far south of the region, close to the Austrian border, near to the historic towns of Mikulov and Znojmo.

As regular readers will know, we have a Bohemian brewery on our doorstep, in Whittington Road, Bowes Park.  Five weeks ago it opened its own bar - the Bohem Tap Room - in Myddleton Road, a couple of minutes away from Bowes Park station.  On 28th May the Tap Room is hosting an event organised by another Czech-run enterprise - Vínovítaj of Walthamstow, an importer of Czech wines.  Vínovítaj will be presenting twelve of the many varieties of Czech wine, with some accompanying Czech-style snacks, and there'll be an opportunity to buy wines on the spot or order them for delivery.

There's only one catch:  the Tap Room is "intimate", that is to say, small, so only 30 tickets will be available (and I've already bought two).  So don't delay - get over to the Tap Room, which is open every evening, and grap a ticket.
