For the second year running the national body Civic Voicehas presented its Civic Day Award to Southgate District Civic Trust (SDCT).  The award is a recognition of "An Outstanding Contribution".

As last year, our local civic trust wasn't satisfied with a just organising a Civic Day - instead it was the driving force behind the Southgate Civic Week, eight days of events run in collaboration with a dozen or so local groups.  Activities included a photographic competition, a range of musical events, plenty of local sport (including three cricket matches), guided walks, a school reunion, quiz night, an allotments open day and - last but not least - a litter picking day.

SDCT was set up 55 years ago and aims to protect, enhance and advance the local community.  Its next open meeting is this Saturday (28th October), when Stefan Dickers of the Bishopsgate Institute will be talking on the subject of London recorded by camera: Street Photography in the East End.
