enfield dispatch dec 2019This month's Enfield Dispatch provides an opportunity to find out about all local election candidates. It also introduces new ways for businesses and community groups to support our fledgling community newspaper. It should also be easier to pick up a copy thanks to the addition of three new newsstands.

The three centre pages of the December paper are devoted to pitches from all 15 candidates standing in the three Enfield seats - supplied by the candidates themselves, but "fact checked" by the journalists.

There's an encouraging increase in the amount of advertising in this issue, suggesting that the Dispatch is on the road to sustainability. The publisher has also introduced a second type of "membership". On top of the existing scheme whereby individuals can "join" for £3 or £5 a month, there is now an organisational membership scheme, in return for which organisations can have their logo printed in each issue and qualify for discounts of up to £40. More details here.

The new newsstands are at Ponders End, Bush Hill Park and Cockfosters stations, joining existing stands in Edmonton Green, Southgate, Enfield Town and Palmers Green. You can see a complete list of pick-up points online.

What's in the December issue?

In this month's edition our top story is the anger from local residents over the council's new plans for low-traffic neighbourhoods.

On Page 2 there are fears over the future of Whitewebbs Park as commercial bids are made to take over running the adjacent golf course.

On Page 4 the head gardener of Myddelton House Gardens gives his horticultural advice for winter.

On Page 6 a foundation for social entrepreneurs launches its search for local "gamechangers".

On Pages 8-10 candidates for three constituencies make their pitch for your vote in the upcoming general election.

On Page 12 find out how you can support the local community this festive season.

And on Page 14 a major estate revamp is planned in Edmonton.
