Green Dragon campaigners fight on

The Save the Green Dragon Campaign is urging concerned members of the public to take part in a demonstration at 6pm on Wednesday, set to coincide with the signing in of a new Mayor of Enfield.  Support for the campaign has been expressed by, among others, the Mayor of London. Publication of correspondence between local councillors and a PR company has increased suspicions that the current and former owners have deliberately acted with a view to developing the site for housing or mixed.......

Double blow for local heritage lovers

Trent Park campaigners warn that Council delay may jeopardise future of mansion

Save Trent Park campaigners are warning that delay by Enfield Council in registering the Park's historic mansion as an Asset of Community Value is jeopardising its future.  They fear that the former university campus might be sold to an  private developer at any moment, before registration is complete. Registration as an ACV would give the campaign a six-month breathing space, during which time it could seek a buyer for the campus who would be willing to guarantee the conditions voted.......

Success for Firs Farm wetlands grant bid

The Friends of Firs Farm Park are celebrating the success of their campaign to revitalise this large green space on the Winchmore Hill/Edmonton borders.  The Firs Farm Wetlands scheme gathered the highest number of votes from members of the public among the projects shortlisted for money from the Mayor of London's Big Green Fund II. As the result of a vigorous campaign by the Friends , the project received more than 2000 votes and has been awarded the highest amount available - £175,000........

Change in planning laws is good news for pub rescue campaigners

People's Question Time - in a restored Grade II listed building

Twice a year the Mayor of London and members of the London Assembly hold a People's Question Time session in a different part of the capital.  On 19th March the venue will be the Dominion Centre in Wood Green High Road. The Dominion Centre is now used as a church, but started life as a magnificent cinema and still has the wording Gaumont Palace in huge letters on top of the frontage.  This was its original name - later it became just the Gaumont, then the Odeon and then Mecca Bingo........

Railside tree removals spark angry reaction

Palmers Green residents who are angry with the wholesale removal of trees from a trackside cutting have begun sending messages of protest to a Network Rail manager. Complaints relate to a section of track adjacent to the Fox Lane bridge.  On the western side of the cutting absolutely all trees and bushes have been removed along the section of track next to the new "Palmadium" housing development.  Quite apart from the visual impact, there will be an obvious severe affect on wildlife.......

Petition launched to save the Green Dragon

Railway line tree clearance work to start next month

Network Rail have written to people living adjacent to the railway line in Palmers Green and Winchmore Hill to notify them that work to create a vegetation-free strip of land on either side of the line will start on 9th February and continue until 20th March. The work will involve clearing trees and other vegetation on both sides of the track so that there are no branches within 3.5 metres of the railway overhead power lines. This is to make a strip of between 6 and 7 metres wide for the safe.......

Help find a new home for some well loved old railings

Friends of Broomfield Park are hoping to find a new home for the decorative railings that until not long ago adorned the entrances to the subterranean Ladies and Gentlemen's toilets at Palmers Green Triangle. The planned new location is in front of the beautiful restored Conservatory in Broomfield Park, replacing the functional, but not exactly pretty, chainlink fence that currently protects the vulnerable building from vandals.  A suitable design has been devised, but more money is.......

Truro House - Introductory Article

Truro House is a Grade ll listed building on the corner of Green Lanes and Oakthorpe Road which is on the English Heritage Buildings at Risk register. The entry reads, “Early to mid C19 detached villa with C19 stable block. Enfield have written to owners with a suggested schedule for repair works, awaiting timetable. Civic Trust seeking to protect "community assets"
