The Council is seeking views on reviewing the current street trading policy. Street trading can cover tables and chairs and the display of goods on the pavement. Currently, the policy only permits street trading licences for tables and chairs on the pavement outside restaurants, cafes and pubs in certain designated streets, and the sale of goods from seasonal and farmers markets and the sale of goods from a small number of very longstanding stalls.

Myddleton Road Thentake the train one stop to Bowes Park, turn left at the top of the stairs, and you find yourself in Myddleton Road. A once thriving shopping street and community hub, neglected for many years and very shabby, only retaining some of its Victorian shopfronts, with many shops empty or used as illegal houses in multiple occupation - in some places resembling a ghost street. Both the discussions on the mini-Holland scheme and the consultation on the future of Palmers Green raise issues about the shopping environment. A planning application pertaining to a new Sainsbury's Local store in Green Lanes was submitted to Enfield Council this week. As expected, it will occupy the premises previously belonging to the Turkish food shop 1001 Supermarket and the adjacent Palmers Green News paper shop. However, it does not include the former Coffee Culture cafe, which last week reopened as Kiva Coffee House and Brasserie (see this Enfield Independent report.).

As expected, the proposal to open a new betting shop in the Trios building in Green Lanes, on one side of the Triangle, has met with opposition. The Green Lanes Business Association (GLBA) has reacted by organising a demonstration to be held at Palmers Green Triangle between 1.30 and 2.30 on Friday 19th April, and is expecting attendance by local MP David Burrowes and local councillors. GLBA are asking all local residents who are opposed to the new betting shop to attend if able.
