Palmers Green Public Realm consultation "went well"

Those who remember the ornate railings around the toilets on the Triangle may be interested to know that they may find a new home.

They were removed as part of a highways "de-cluttering" exercise, regrettably without any consultation, and placed in storage. After a recent visit to inspect them by members of the Conservatory Committee it has been proposed, in principle, that they might be used as permanent fencing around the Broomfield Park Conservatory.

The main issue is likely to be the cost of refurbishment and installation; they badly need sandblasting and protective treatment, and new bases to support their great weight.

My concern is simply that this part of Palmers Green's heritage should find a new use. It's not easy to find alternative use, and any of which would require the same treatment, so a home in Broomfield Park may be the best solution. They are impressive pieces of cast iron, which could stand for many years in such a position.
