Campaigners for a skatepark in Broomfield Park have set up a crowdfunder to raise the money needed to pay for a feasibility study.

The campaign for a skatepark was started in March 2021 by Palmers Green resident Joseph Wagland, who wrote very eloquently about the absence of local facilities for skateboarding and the positive effects on young people's mental health that skateparks can provide. This led to the formation of a group supporting the idea, which now has more than a hundred members, and to an online petition, which has attracted nearly 1300 signatures.

Enfield Council has indicated that it is in favour of the idea in principle, but is unable to fund a required feasibility study. However, the skatepark company Betongpark has offered to carry out the study at a reduced community rate.

A crowdfunder has been set up on Go Fund Me with a target of £4000. So far £739 has been pledged by 37 donors.

An update provided by Christie Wagland:

The skatepark campaign's crowdfunder is now over half way to its target of £4000. Once it reaches the £3500 mark, Betongpark will start the feasibility study. Should the feasibility study come out positive, the next step will be to raise money to build the skatepark. The campaigners will be be applying for grants and holding fundraising events.

If you'd like to support the campaign, please help publicise the crowdfunder www.gofundme.com/f/broomfield-park-skatepark-feasibility-study and make a pledge.
