How can we put an end to reckless driving? Why is it not at the top of the police's priorities? Why do magistrates award such lenient sentences to people who endanger the public?

Here in Palmers Green, and probably throughout London's outer suburbs, the sight and sound of boy racers is familiar to us all. They don't confine their reckless behaviour to main roads like the A10 or A406, you often see them and hear them deliberately backfiring along our shopping streets - it's only by sheer luck that pedestrians crossing Green Lanes don't get run over.
The men-boys racing along the North Circular yesterday were lucky too - they reportedly ran off leaving the chaotic scene captured in this video footage.
And this morning someone drove straight into a tree in Hedge Lane. Does anyone have any information about this "accident"?
