A recently published document provides a detailed timeline of the developing crisis in Accident & Emergency at the North Middlesex Hospital and of the actions taken to mitigate the situation.

haringey ccg nmuh paperThe document, entitled Quality and Safety Concerns at North Middlesex University
Hospital, was prepared for discussion at the July meeting of the Governing Body of Haringey Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG)*.  A summary on the front page reads as follows:

During the last 18 months, Haringey CCG has had close oversight of a broad range of quality challenges within North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust which has required a robust approach to the application of contractual levers and prompt escalation of concerns.  As the Governing Body is aware, the CCG has triggered the National Quality Board Risk Summit process (2014) on two occasions between August 2015- January 2016 due to concerns about the protection of quality and safety at the Trust.

In August 2015 an extended round table identified the A&E department as one of six priority areas requiring Trust focus due to the deterioration in the performance of the national 4 hour wait target and the emergence of significant workforce challenges. The need to secure additional senior doctors within the A&E department was identified at this time and has remained a key priority for the Trust and local NHS system.

Since August 2015 there have been ongoing challenges relating to the A&E department including the quality of the training environment for junior doctors.

This paper provides the Governing Body with an update on decisions and actions taken by regulators in relation to the urgent and emergency services at  North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust since the last Governing Body meeting on 26 May 2016. A timeline of key events between  August 2014 – July 2016 is provided as an appendix.

The full document can be accessed at this link.

The CCG Governing Body meeting is scheduled for Thursday 28th July at 2pm at the Cypriot Community Centre in Wood Green - see the CCG website for details of the venue and agenda.
