João Giacchin: mountaineer, poet, sculptor, photographer, film director and more...
I was born in southern Brazil, in Rio Grande do Sul. My passion for poetry was ignited at a young age, inspired by my uncle, a well-known Brazilian poet, composer, and musician. In Brazil I pursued wood sculpting and lyricist painting, alongside my love for mountaineering and rock climbing. I worked as climbing photographer for mountaineering magazines and always had a love and connection to nature and the natural world. My journey over the years has led me to live in four countries: Brazil, Italy, Spain, and now England. I settled in England when I met my partner Hana and have family together. We now live in Edmonton.
For the past eight years I have been a self-taught student of audio-visual production and cinematography. Together with my family, we launched the 'Exploring Cultural Lives' project, aimed at collaborating on film projects with people from diverse backgrounds in our current community. Our family-owned production companies, Saotome-Giacchin Music Films and Altplan Filmes, specialize in music films and documentary projects, respectively.
Hana Saotome, my partner, is an integral part of our 'Exploring Cultural Lives' . She works as dance teacher and Yoga teacher trainer with many years of experience working within a community setting. She is the also loving mother of our adorable three-year-old son. The three of us are deeply involved in bringing this cinematic vision to life.
