Palmers Green photographer tops #FreshStartPhotos competition

"Rising Up" (Copyright Amelia Corton)A Palmers Green photographer has been featured as one of the top entries in National Accident Helpline's #FreshStartPhotos competition. 23-year old Amelia Corton, entered a photo entitled: "Rising up". She says, "It was a photo I took at the weekend on a charity walk.  I have recently come out of a horrible depression and the photo depicts how I feel and that there is light waiting even in the weirdest and darkest of times." Essay and photographic competitions offer prizes for adults and children

For the second year running the Lamb Festival is running literary and photographic competitions with unusual themes.  There are three entry categories:  primary schools, secondary schools and open (ie adults). Civic Trust to unveil plaque to pioneering wildlife photographer

Southgate District Civic Trust and Enfield Grammar School are combining to place a local blue plaque on the house where pioneer wildlife photographer Oliver Pike (1877-1963) lived with his family from 1882 to 1914, 96 Green Dragon Lane in Winchmore Hill, which was the location for his early natural history photographs and books. The plaque will be unveiled on 16 November 2014 at 2pm by two of Oliver Pike’s grandsons, Jonathan and Richard Dollimore. Oliver Pike was probably the first.......

Conservatory hosts photo exhibition

The beautiful Broomfield Conservatory is at its best in this sunny weather.  Both visitors and the conservatory's collection of exotic plants are enjoying the light and warmth, and currently there's an extra treat for visitors - an exhibition of photographs submitted to the Friends of Broomfield Park's second annual photocompetition. The Friends' committee members have, with great difficulty, shortlisted eleven of the 85 entries to the competition, printed them out and put them on display.......

Park Friends disappointed by flower bed cutbacks

"Sunset" by Steve Harrison - winner of the Friends of Broomfield Park photographic competition Visitors to Broomfield Park this spring and summer will find the park rather less colourful than usual.  Funding cutbacks by Enfield Council have led to a two-thirds reduction in the number of bedding plants being planted out this year - across the Borough as a whole the budget allocation for flowers in parks has been reduced from £24,000 to £8,000.  The result will be many.......
