The Cycle Enfield website includes the official responses to various criticisms of the A105 scheme.  However, because people may not be aware of these, we are reproducing them here both to make them more widely known and to give readers an opportunity to comment and discuss them in our forums.

The following text is taken directly from Cycle Enfield without any amendment.

Impact on parking

Enfield Council understand that car parking is an important component of our hight streets. Although man people walk or get the bus to our town centres, many also choose to drive, and for some that is the only practical way to get the town centre. This is why the proposals include significant amounts of car parking.

Palmers Green

From Fox Lane to Broomfield Lane:

  • There are currently 47 Pay and Display parking bays on Green Lanes.
  • The proposed scheme provides 60 Pay and Display parking bays, which does include an additional 20 spaces in Lodge Drive and the conversion of the taxi rank on Lodge Drive to Pay and Display parking.
  • Existing Loading bays are retained

From Bourne Hill to Fox Lane:

  • There are currently 37 Pay and Display parking bays on Green Lanes.
  • The proposed scheme provides 28 Pay and Display parking bays on Green Lanes.
  • Existing Pay and Display parking on the side roads will be retained.
  • Existing Loading bays are retained

Winchmore Hill

From Station Road to Fernleigh Road:

  • There are currently 59 parking bays.
  • The proposed scheme provides 42 parking bays (7 of which are on sides roads).
  • There is approximately 3 spaces of unrestricted parking which are to be removed.
  • Existing loading is retained but relocated.
  • Fords Grove car park to be converted to Pay and Display to enable shorter term shopper parking.
  • Parking by Fernleigh Road retained.

Parking in residential areas

On street parking along the residential stretches of the route will be reduced. Parking will only be available in designated pockets along the route – the availability of parking is very clearly indicated on the drawings.
