Phase 2 of the planned public realm improvements to Enfield Town has been broken up into subphases. Funding has been found for the first of them and work to implement the changes, benefiting primarily pedestrians, is due to start on 20th October and last around three months.

Following the preliminary engagement earlier this year regarding the introduction of more 20mph streets in the borough, Enfield Council has now launched a statutory consultation about its plans for three town centres: Palmers Green, Southgate and Edmonton.

Enfield Council's deadline for commenting on proposals for more 20mph zones is again 21st September. The evidence that reducing speed limits from 30mph to 20mph cuts deaths and serious injuries is now clear, and particularly so in cases where drivers are in collision with children.

Next Tuesday's meeting of Enfield Over 50s Forum - open to anyone over that age - will be discussing the council's updated Fair Enfield policies, and its proposal to introduce 20mph speed limits on many more of the borough's streets. Unfair to drivers? Or is it unfair to the large chunk of the borough's population that don't have access to a car that they are often the most affected by road danger and unhealthy air? Enfield Council has published its plans for the second phase of the Enfield Town Liveable Neighbourhood project. The formal statutory consultation phase runs until 13 July. The project involves improvements to roads and pavements aimed primarily at making Enfield Town safer and pleasanter for people moving around on foot, using mobility scooters and wheelchairs, or cycling.

Attendees are afterwards invited to take refreshments at Enfield Town Library. The council is currently seeking funding for the next phase of the project, which will improve the environment around Enfield Town Station..

Construction work on the initial phase of the Enfield Town Liveable Neighbourhood scheme is due to begin this week. Phase 1 will bring improvements for pedestrians in the western part of the borough's main town centre, in particular making it easier and safer to access the Library Green and Town Park on foot from Church Street. A new public square will be created near the post office.

Enfield Council's 'Liveable Neighbourhoods' project for improvements to the public realm in Enfield Town has already progressed through four stages of public engagement since 2019, designed to find out people's views and improve the design. Funding is now in place for phase 1 - covering the north western corner of the scheme - and the statutory consultation period has begun, running until 3rd March.

Enfield Council is inviting people to apply to be members of a group being set up to ensure that the views of deaf and disabled people are heard throughout the design phases of projects designed to enable and encourage people to use environmentally sustainable means to make daily journeys, such as school streets, quieter neighbourhoods and walking and cycling routes.

It's great to see the Fox full of life, surrounded by flowers and its customers spilling out onto the pavement, but the current design of the public realm on the corner of Green Lanes and Fox Lane is proving problematical for pedestrians, and in particular for anyone who needs enough clearance to get through in a wheelchair, mobility scooter or pushing a big baby buggy.

Enfield Council's Journeys & Places team has published more information and extended the deadline for submitting comments on its proposals for the Old Park Road to Pymmes Park Walking and Cyling Route. The new deadline is midnight on Sunday 18th June. An online event will be held on Wednesday 14 June at 6pm.
