A book published by the Fabian Society with support from Groundwork, Keep Britain Tidy, the RSPB and the Woodland Trust addresses the challenge of maintaining the UK's parks and other green spaces in an age of Austerity.

Southgate District Civic Trust is delighted to announce that Freddie Gick the Chair of Civic Voice will be visiting us in March.
As the highlight of his visit, Freddie Gick will talk about the work of Civic Voice and the Civic Movement in Britain. This will be a rare chance to hear from and speak to the man who leads this important work.

North London Samaritans have got through the first stage of a submission to the Heritage Lottery Fund to restore the "Tin Tabernacle" in Bowes Park for use as a call centre and community centre. To succeed in Stage 2 they need to prove that there is sufficient demand from community groups and other organisations who would wish to hire such a hall.

Talkies is a not-for-profit, volunteer-led society which gets no regular funding or subsidy. Through the generous support of Friends of Talkies, together with other fund-raising and ticket sales, in 2015 we were able to:
commission young film makers to create short films based in our area;
run HERE FILM FESTIVAL, which showcases local talent;
buy good quality equipment to improve your cinema experience;
establish two new local groups - one in Bowes Park/Bounds Green and another in Bush.......

One of the most notable institutions in Palmers Green is the Ruth Winston Centre. Talkies - the pop-up cinema with a difference - is expanding its reach to take in Winchmore Hill and is looking for volunteers in N21 to help choose films and find venues.
Talkies Community Cinema showed its first film two years ago this month and has been attracting large audiences ever since. Its events in Palmers Green (at the Fox, Baskervilles and the Intimate) and in Southgate (at St Monica's Parish Centre and at Christ Church) have frequently sold out. it has also been showing.......

Ahead of their quarterly open meeting next week, the Friends of Broomfield Park are celebrating their favourite green space's two Gold awards in this year's Enfield in Bloom competition.
The Park won Gold in the Best Maintained Park category, while one of its most interesting features, the Broomfield Community Orchard, won Gold in the Innovative Growing Space category. Another Broomfield Park attraction, the Broomfield Conservatory, was awarded Bronze for its Exceptional Horticultural.......

The Friends of Arnos Park are local residents who work hard to ensure that the park continues to be a well maintained and safe place of recreation for the whole community. We lobby the London Borough of Enfield and work with them to improve the tidiness of the park, increase its bio diversity and fundraise for improvements. Our work includes some maintenance of flowerbeds, pruning of trees and shrubs and landscaping work.

The beautiful Broomfield Conservatory is at its best in this sunny weather. Both visitors and the conservatory's collection of exotic plants are enjoying the light and warmth, and currently there's an extra treat for visitors - an exhibition of photographs submitted to the Friends of Broomfield Park's second annual photocompetition.
The Friends' committee members have, with great difficulty, shortlisted eleven of the 85 entries to the competition, printed them out and put them on display.......

Two new projects will be described at the quarterly Open Meeting held by the Friends of Broomfield Park, which will take place at 7.30pm next Wednesday (26th February) at the Ruth Winston Centre.
