The work of Palmers Green artist Anne Hutchings currently adorns the art gallery at the Southgate Club with a retrospective exhibition of her work produced using a variety of media. Anne says of her work, 'Everything I see I think of in terms of a monochrome picture. My art is the result of an untidy mind and does not often have a theme. I usually work in graphite pencil, charcoal and pen and ink'. The exhibition also includes many examples of Anne's print making in drypoint and lino cut.

The Curate Enfield public art project has moved on to the next stage, which involves commissioning artists to create works of public art in places identified when the public was surveyed back in January. Create Enfield is now inviting artists to submit proposals for the first three town centres - Palmers Green, Angel Edmonton and Enfield Town. In Palmers Green the public art champions have identified several walls and alleyways off Green Lanes which could host a public art trail.

The survey about people's views on new public art in Palmers Green reported on last week turns out to be part of a bigger project, Curate Enfield, covering five of the borough's town centres. The other four are Enfield Town, Southgate, Edmonton Green and Angel Edmonton.

Currently showing at the Southgate Gallery until mid October (in addition to the continuing mixed media exhibition of various local artists), Mary Horsfield, a member of the Enfield Art Circle, has several examples of her work on display. Mary's colourful and detailed acrylic paintings on canvas show a variety of flowers in Victorian planters plus recognisable scenes viewed through imaginary windows.

A call is going out to artists to submit up to three works each to an exhibition at Bloqs in Edmonton that will run between November and February. The theme: Melting Point.

At the Southgate Club and Gallery, the nostalgic drawings and booklets of Alan Baker have been joined by the gallery's Summer Exhibition, comprising works by a variety of local artists. Anne Hutchings, Sue Loder, Nicola Scott, Helen Wood, Joyce Lubell, and Barbara Luckhurst offer a colourful and thought-provoking mixed-media feast using water colour, oils, charcoal, graphite, acrylics, print and photography.

On Friday 30th July the Mayor of Enfield, Cllr Doris Jiagge, performed the opening ceremony for the 2022 annual exhibition organised by Enfield Art Circle. The exhibition will be open until 13th August.

Palmers Green Action Team is recruiting an artist to create a site-specific work to celebrate the life of celebrated poet and PG resident Stevie Smith. This will be one of the Stories of Enfield projects - community heritage activities that are receiving funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Gee has sent details of her new art course that runs for six weeks at St Andrews Church Hall in Southgate, starting on Tuesday 8th March. The course normally costs £125, but because she is trying to promote the arts within our local community, Gee is offering a discounted price, £110 per person.

Local artists and photographers are being invited to take part in north London's first Citizens Art Festival, which will be held in Wood Green from 7th to 10th April. The festival will feature both an exhibition in the impressive third-floor gallery at the Green Rooms hotel and three days of art workshops and activities at Wood Green's unique 'meanwhile space', Blue House Yard. Both venues are in Station Road, only a few minutes walk from Wood Green station.

For the second year running Enfield Art Circle's annual exhibition of members' work will be held online. Between 24th October and 19th December you will be able to drop in and out and browse at your leisure, from the comfort of your own home. Most of the works will be available to purchase, and 10 per cent of the proceeds will be donated to local charity Enfield Young Carers.

WEA Southgate & Enfield will be relaunching face-to-face courses in September. They're currently busy planning the courses that will start then and ensuring that the local venues - Enfield Baptist Church and Palmers Green United Reformed Church - will be safe. The first three courses deal with the history of ideas; the social and political history of English gardens; and poems written about particular paintings. There will also be new online courses, dealing with key artworks, fashion in Tudor and Stuart England, and American independent film makers of the past 30 years.
