202110 breaking the cycle of youth unemployment

Our mission is to help 100 unemployed young people to apply for an apprenticeship successfully by December 2022
Jeremy Crook OBE
Chief Executive at BTEG

The current unemployment data in Enfield shows over 6,000 16–24-year-olds on Universal Credit. Young black workers have been hit disproportionately hard during the pandemic, according to Guardian analysis, with more than 40% unemployed – three times worse than white workers of the same age. Simon Perriton-CEO
Founder & Owner at Just IT Training & Apprenticeships

This high level of unemployment contributed to Enfield having the second highest serious youth violence in London. This online conference plans to explore the barriers that prevent talented young people living in Enfield from gaining sustainable employment or high value apprenticeships, despite apprenticeship being the flagship for school-leavers who would prefer this option as opposed to going to university.
Ayfer Orhan
Facilitator

There is a low take-up of apprenticeships by local businesses in Enfield. This conference will also explore the barriers that prevent employers from recruiting apprentices and how we could assist them to recruit talented young people from Enfield’s diverse communities.
