the palmers green community hub a vibrant and successful eventWhile we await the full report on the discussions that took place at Palmers Green's first community hub, held last month, Francis Sealey from Enfield Climate Action Forum (EnCAF) has released several short YouTube videos that give a flavour of what the afternoon was all about.

(The brief notes under each video are adapted from the comments on the YouTube pages written by Francis.)

The Palmers Green community hub: what was achieved

During an online meeting of Enfield Climate Action Forum Francis Sealey reports on the successful Palmers Green community hub. He explains how it came about and what outcomes he hopes will arise from it, some of which have already begun.

A flavour of the Palmers Green community hub

With close to 120 people in attendance, the Palmers Green hub was a hive of energy and ideas as well as suggestions about pathways to action. Hopefully, this is just the beginning of an ongoing engagement in the borough that will lead to communities taking control of their future

Wellbeing session: introduction

Noelle Skivington introduces the 40-minute long Wellbeing discussions at the community hub.

Noelle has been a senior manager in healthcare working within the acute sector, primary care and education as a senior lecturer at London South Bank University.

Wellbeing: the discussion begins

It was interesting that the first contribution shifted the discussion away from specific health themes like obesity, food poverty etc to a more general belief that wellbeing is about mental, emotional and physical happiness.

Food poverty: could allotments help?

An interesting suggestion came up in the discussion on food poverty. One lady who has an allotment mentioned that there is a lot of surplus produced on allotments that often go to waste. She suggested that a collaboration between the local authority, the allotment site managers and the local charities could create a way of distributing this surplus to those in need. Many thought this a valuable idea and one that Enfield Climate Action Forum could take up by bringing those who could deliver on this together to try to achieve this outcome.

Climate change and climate justice

Alessandra Palange led the discussion on climate change. In this excerpt she speaks about the importance of climate justice.

Tackling the cost of living crisis

This session was led by Nnena Anwanvu from Citizens' Advice. She says that politicians have failed and the community must help create solutions. It is those who are most vulnerable who will suffer most.
